My New Ceiling Fan

I'm moving to my master bedroom in my home renovation, and I knew I wanted a ceiling fan. Luckily, ceiling fans can be very steampunk (are they originally Victorian, or do they all just look like they are?), as is evidenced by the posts I've done on ceiling fans in the past. The trick for my room was finding something that wasn't too big or too expensive, and that combined the ceiling fan with lights. Oh, yes, it also couldn't be too big or too low, as it was going in the bedroom of a 1960s era house.

Todd came to my rescue by spotting this one at his local Home Depot. It's the Hampton Bay 13 In. Berre Walnut Depalm Ceiling Fan -- 20 inches high and $299. It was out of stock for a while, but now it's back in and I just ordered it.

Cooling the Steampunk

We've done ceiling fans before, but wonderful models keep showing up. (I think ceiling fan technology is intrinsically Victorian, which may explain some of it.)

Michael Banks sent me Hunter 1886 Limited Edition.

Tangelia sent me the Fanimation Old Havana Ceiling Mount.

Ceiling Fans!

Reader Jon was so kind as to recommend a very clever ceiling fan. The Air Shadow is a ceiling fan whose blades retract when not in use. Sort of like a transformer, except for grown ups.

I like the idea, both from a "clever gadget" perspective, but also because it doesn't take up the visual space in a room a traditional ceiling fan does.

The other find from Jon? The site he found the Air Shadow on is Fanimation, which has some of the most fabulous fans I have ever seen.

Have you ever wanted multiple ceiling fans belted together, like they have a Dave and Buster's? Check out the Brewmaster.

Have an extremely high ceiling and want to fill the space to make the room more cozy? I'd say the American is your fan.

Perhaps something more evocative of a hovering airship?

What fun! There's lots more on the Fanimation site (and be sure to check out their gallery).

Other fans.

Steampunk Ceiling Fan

Although you can find plenty of Victorian inspired ceiling fans in your favorite mass market home improvement store for very reasonable prices, it's hard to beat this one that rohmi over on the steamfashion LJ group found:

It's the Brisa 2000 by the Matthews Fan Company. I'd love to see a video of it rotating.... it reminds me of a model of a galaxy, where the individual planets rotate and then also rotate around the sun.

*Only* $1250 at Bellacor.
