As a child, I always loved those antique trunks you'd run across that had drawers, places to hang clothes, and even a hatbox. They conjured up glamorous transatlantic cruises...
We may not be able to pack as much (or as inefficiently) anymore, but this Mayfair Steamer Secretary Trunk at Restoration Hardware pushes the same buttons for me.Perfect for an office in a tight place that has to do double duty -- just fold it up when company comes over, and everyone will wonder what purloined treasures you're having shipped to you.

I love those things. Truly. I would love to actually be able to own one some day too because they're just so stinking beautiful!
We have a theatrical steamer trunk in one corner of our living room, and we receive no end of compliments on it. It's rustic, beautiful, and still maintains its function. We use the drawers for stationery and home goods, and the open space opposite for storing board games. We mask that side with a piece of vintage clothing that changes based on the season. It totally meshes with our Wandering Magician theme.

I saw this in a Martha S. Living magazine (web link here http://www.marthastewart.com/article/clever-office-hidden-space?autonomy_kw=hinged bookcase ) where they took two wooden bookcases, castors, and a piano hinge and made a neat "bookcase armoire". I thought that with a little moding (paint and glazes) I could come up with a steampunk variant.

I saw this in the Restoration Hardware catalog and my heart went pitter patter. (I wish I had a loft for it.) I wanted to see what it looked like closed and I happened upon this blog. What a wonderful find!!!! This and the hidden passageway bookcases have made my day.
I want one! We have a tiny student apartment and that would be perfect in a small and impermanent living situation. Now, I just need to find $4000 laying around somewhere.
