I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetic pleasing yet still punkish way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future. It's taking the detritus of our modern technological society and remaking it into useful things. Join me as I search for items for my house that combine the scientific romanticism of the Victorians with our real present and imagined future.
Oh my! I love this. I especially love the lighting they create, and some of the shelving and furniture is to good. I'm really starting to like Steampunk, thanks for introducing it to me.
ReplyDeleteI love this too!
ReplyDeleteI never realized my taste is steampunk. My husband and I combine retro and industrial so that goes hand-in-hand with steampunk
What kind of coating did you use for the ultra glossy black finish?
ReplyDeleteI did this for my shower curtain. To get the glossy black finish, I recommend epoxy enamel. It comes in a spray can. It's also known as appliance paint. It covered the pipes really well.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to let the paint cure before you attempt to put shower curtain rings on it! It needs 24 to 48 hours to cure good and hard!
I'd upload a picture of it if I could. Looks brilliant with my opulent crimson red shower curtain!
I'd love to see this, yo_jehle, if you'd like to email it to the email address at the top left...
ReplyDeleteThis is really a nice idea you have here. Love the lighting and stuff.

Target has a very nice selection of oil rubbed bronze & similar shower curtains that are very reasonably priced. The color of it goes nicely with the red silk drape that I use as a door for my workshop :-) Their shabby chic stuff is more "classic victorian" but mix it with the right metal and its gorgeous!
