I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetic pleasing yet still punkish way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future. It's taking the detritus of our modern technological society and remaking it into useful things. PSA: Radioactive Steampunk
If you use old watch parts for steampunk projects, you should read this.
Hey, I got an email from someone after your post went up that I think would be of interest:
"After seeing the radium dial warning from Steampunk, be aware that the same problem exists with old aircraft instrument dials and faces, only probably worse because of their size. I used to have a shelf full of those instruments, and it would glow in the dark.....I think jewelers may remove some of those parts when they work on old watches, but commonly the replacement parts are not available, such as on Accutron watches."
