Laurel sent me a link to this home tour at Country Living.
It's a wonderful collection of modern and new, industrial and science. Not distinctly steampunk, but with oh so many of the elements we like.
It's interesting how much grey they use through this house -- a very modern neutral, but the blue in the grey provides a lot of contrast for the yellows in the antique browns.
I love how she has succulents tucked in all over the place. (I'll get around to sharing my terrarium of succulents here soon...)
This is an old seed packet display -- but it's almost a wunderkabinet now!
The plants in the tall glass cloches add a lot of height to her table...
These are old French mail bins. (Also, I've seen a similar surveyor's lamp at Target recently...)
Industrial antique table and stool, leather chair, dark wood... sigh.

I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetic pleasing yet still punkish way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future. It's taking the detritus of our modern technological society and remaking it into useful things. Join me as I search for items for my house that combine the scientific romanticism of the Victorians with our real present and imagined future.

*drools* I badly want that cabinet...
Man, this just makes me want to weep. My tastes are far too advanced for my income bracket.
As always, SH has the most exciting and inspirational Steampunk offerings. Great post. Thanks, Sara!
Yet again a brilliant entry. Thank you.
Thanks for the article. I'm totally inspired. It really gives hope to those of us just wanting to be our own wacky selves in our home designs.
Oh I love looking at other people's homes. As someone else said, it's very inspiring.. Some people are so creative. I'm envious of the flip chart in the first photo! And the "lab" stools in a couple of the photos (particularly the worn-in ones) look great!
Great post as usual!
Simply gorgeous decor. I can only imagine relaxing in this space with that vintage, scientific vibe...how inspiring! Lovely post.
If you like Monique's stuff (she's woman who designed and owns the house, check out her site or blog...
