I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetic pleasing yet still punkish way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future. It's taking the detritus of our modern technological society and remaking it into useful things. Join me as I search for items for my house that combine the scientific romanticism of the Victorians with our real present and imagined future.

Iron and Glass
This iron and crystal decanter struck me with it's juxtaposition of an elegant glass vessel and the pitted iron stopper. That tension is what lies at the heart of steampunk style -- pretty, but rough around the edges.
This is a fairly new genre to my world. I first heard of it via collage artistry, but later became better acquainted via Make TV (love that show! So creative!) I'm interested in seeing how you may decide to decorate on your chosen theme. Blog on! Rose McGuinn
