I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetic pleasing yet still punkish way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future. It's taking the detritus of our modern technological society and remaking it into useful things. Join me as I search for items for my house that combine the scientific romanticism of the Victorians with our real present and imagined future.

Springtime Finds from Restoration Hardware
Restoration Hardware has an incredible set of steampunk worthy pieces this spring.
I like the Royal Master Sealight Floor Lamp and the TV Easel, but the price tags are too hefty. They would definitely add wonders to a steampunk styled room.
Thank you for the nice comment on my blog today! Did I read correctly that you are also a Rice grad? I am class of '92...Jones (a fellow Rice grad would understand this!).
That Versailles domed burlap chair is the most divine chair I have ever seen! I want it so badly my left eye won't stop twitching.
ReplyDeleteNice stuff! Sigh. If only I had the budget for it.

Love that world map. It's really interesting to see how much perceptions of landmass and political boundaries have changed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection! I especially love the industrial tool chest - gorgeous.
