Home Under a Hill

Not all steampunk is Victorian.... this house, featured on Apartment Therapy, evokes the more fantastic feeling I mentioned yesterday.

(Yes, it's basicaly a Hobbit Hole, and yes, I know, hobbits aren't steampunk.)

What's to love about it? How the center of the home is a wood stove, the feel that it was built as an escape after civilization collapsed, a home outside of time... All they need is a nice brass lantern hanging over the doorway. :)

  1. A home outside of time. I just love that phrase, Sara.

Thanks to your recent posts, I've been thinking about the "Turkish corners" that used to exist in wealthy Victorian homes. Back when Orientalism was all the rage. They were stuffed with treasures brought back from the near east.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a handy online photo. I'll keep digging and get back to you on that one.

  2. I know it's weird but I long to live in a cave or under grown home.

  4. OMG I LOVE this place. I was all into building totally modern until I landed at your site... I am totally rethinking, or perhaps I need 2 houses - one steampunk and one modern? No?
